What They Say:
Enter the terrifying and unpredictable comic series based on one of the most hotly-anticipated games of 2017! Little Nightmares game follows Six, a young girl in a yellow raincoat, as she explores the horrifying world of The Maw, looking for a way out!

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers):
Six, a tiny girl in a world of what seem to be giants, initially is found running from some humanoid type of creature with a butcher knife. She is depicted as someone looking for something. At first, it’s warmth and similar beings like her. She is told she does not belong there, but for safety she is allowed to stay. She is asked what she has seen.

Her memory brings her back to streets filled with the large humanoid type creatures. She retells that they are filled with secrets. They hunted her down and brought her to where she is now. She is urged to say more or she will surely forget. She thinks about what she has seen, but before she can say anything, she is hunted down once again.

The story shifts from her memories to a lady in mask and asks what her memories might be. Six says the “Shadow” is always near, waiting for its chance. After thinking about all these things, Six decides to keep memories locked away.

Halfway through the comic, “The Tale of the North Wind” begins. The story seems to imply that Six may have been one of two children who escaped a brutal winter in their village, but after they left their village they were hunted down, which sounds like the hunters were called “The North Wind”. The two children took respite in a barn and hid away. They discovered by “The North Wind” and cajoles the brother into coming out. He refuses to back down for his sister’s sake. He finally steps out and learns The North Wind has always controlled his sister. The Shadow intervenes and the story ends here.

In Summary:
Okay, I’ll admit it. I wanted to read this because, yes, I watched YouTubers, Markiplier and Jacksepticeye, play through the video game. After watching the game from start to finish, I had way too many questions and my hope was that this comic would give me a few answers. While the comic only created more questions, it did provide more background than the game did.

While I’m very intrigued about the story, the story flow is a bit disjointed. It starts out with many similar scenes from the game, but cuts abruptly to Six’s backstory in the middle of the comic. I’m not sure if this is to draw readers in who are familiar with the game or not. It made sense to me, but it may not to someone who is not familiar with the game.

I also noticed that the rating is 17+. The content in the first issue definitely does not warrant such a rating, but I’m guessing the series, as a whole will. I look forward to finding out!
