The upcoming summer 2017 anime adaptation of the Mahoujin Guru Guru, aka Magical Circle, manga had revealed earlier this past weekend that it will debut on July 11th, 2017. That’s now been followed up with the second promotional video for the series that gives us a taste of the opening theme song as well. The property comes from Hiroyuki Etou and ran for about a decade back from 1992 to 2003 where there were sixteen volumes produced. The property did have an OVA back in 1994 and it had a TV series in 2000 that ran for almost a year. A sequel series landed in 2012 and the seventh volume came out recently.
The staff for it has Hiroshi Ikehata as the series director with Hisaaki Okui working on the series composition and Naoyuki ASano on character designs.
The Japanese cast includes Shizuka Ishigami as Nike, Konomi Kohara as Kukuri, Katsuyuki Konishi as Kita Kita Oyaji, Yō Taichi as Juju, Yukiyo Fujii as Toma and Takahiro Sakurai as Gipple.
Plot Concept: Mahoujin Guru Guru is a light-hearted series aimed at older children; it contains occasional toilet gags and some innuendo that might startle western parents. It also is a parody of early role-playing video games (RPGs), particularly turn-based games such as the Dragon Quest games. The narrator speaks in place of the dialog in such games, and this is one of the comedy elements of the show. Often role-playing videogame-style information boxes are displayed on screen with accompanying narration in the traditional RPG style. The overall goal of the main characters, Nike and Kukuri, is to defeat Giri, the ruler of the darkness. Since the anime is based on an RPG, several side quests need to be completed before they are able to locate him.
