Seven Deadly Sins Header 5-21Funimation recently brought out the big release on May 16th, 2017 with the first part of the Seven Deadly Sins series arriving as both a DVD-only release and a DVD/BD Combo release. With not too much in the way of clips for it, they’ve now brought out a new one that digs into some of the foundations of the world and how things work within it. Featuring the first twelve episodes of the first season, it’s rare trilingual anime release with Japanese, English, and Spanish audio tracks included with English subtitles. Extras include the clean openings and closings as well as next episode previews.

The English dub was produced by Bang Zoom! Entertainment with Chris Cason directing it. The English cast includes Bryce Papenbrook as Meliodas, Cristina Vee as Hawk, Erika Harlacher as Elizabeth / Liz, Robbie Daymond as Gilthunder, Erica Mendez as Diane, Ben Diskin as Ban, Max Mittelman as King, Ray Chase as Howzer, Erik Scott Kimerer as Alan / Gowther, Kaiji Tang as Hendrickson, Kyle McCarley as Helbram, Lauren Landa as Merlin / Sennett and Taylor Henry as Dreyfus.

The first season of the series was directed by Tensai Okamura for A-1 Pictures with Shotaro Suga handling the composition while Keigo Sasaki handled the character designs for it as well as serving as chief animation director.

The Japanese cast includes Yuuki Kaji as Meliodas, Sora Amamiya as Elizabeth, Jun Fukuyama as King, Misaki Kuno as Hawk and Mamoru Miyano as Gilthunder so far.

The manga is created by Nakaba Suzuki with twenty-five volumes in print so far and over three million copies in circulation total. The manga series began in 2012 and Kodansha Comics is bringing the series out for North American fans in print while Crunchyroll has the digital chapters being published on their site.

Plot concept: When they were accused of trying to overthrow the monarchy, the feared warriors the Seven Deadly Sins were sent into exile. Princess Elizabeth discovers the truth – the Sins were framed by the king’s guard, the Holy Knights – too late to prevent them from assassinating her father and seizing the throne!
