We learned back in March that Sony was looking to exercise more of their Spider-Man rights with the announcement of a Venom film that’s set for October 5th, 2018. While we had no details at the time other than Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner on board for the script, a good bit of information landed today. While confirming the day and a fall 2017 production start, it was revealed that Tom Hardy is on board to play the title character and the human side of Eddie Brock. Hardy is apparently a good fan of the character and has been advocating for this for some time.
Additionally, we learned that Ruben Fleischer is on board to direct it. Fleischer did some TV worked as a producer for several years in the early 2000’s and made his feature film directorial debut with 2009’s Zombieland. He followed that up with 30 Minutes or Less and then 2013’s Gangster Squad and has been doing producer work since then and doing some TV directorial work.
