FXX Orders ‘Deadpool’ Animated Series

2 min read

Deadpool HeaderSet for a to be determined 2018 broadcast premiere, FXX has ordered to series a Deadpool animated project. Planned for a ten episode season, it’s got an interesting group behind it with Donald Glover, aka the upcoming young Lando Calrissian and current star of Atlanta, as a showrunner along with Stephen Glover where both will also write and serve as executive producers.

FX and its other branches have had good luck with animation over the years with Archer, now showing season eight, and having a couple dozen seasons of The Simpsons in regular rotation as well. This marks the second FX mutant property with the live-action Legion on the main FX channel.

“Donald Glover is an incredibly gifted and versatile artist who’ll bring the untitled Marvel’s Deadpool series to life with the same intense, singular vision as his breakout hit Atlanta,” said Nick Grad, President of Original Programming, FX Networks and FX Productions, “With the success of Legion, we’re looking forward to again partnering with Marvel Television to create a series that is bold, striking and entirely original.”

“How much more fun could this be? Deadpool, Donald and FX – the perfect fit for the Merc with the Mouth!, said Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb. “We’re thrilled that our relationship with FX that started with Legion continues with what is sure to be a groundbreaking show in adult animation.”

While I’d expect some nods to the movie since the character breaks the fourth wall and is aware in that sense, it’s unlikely to be connected any further than that.
