Content: (please note that content portions of this review contains spoilers):
Questions about Lilith’s potential of possessing the power to become a Demon Lord Candidate is quickly revealed as true in this volume. Not only does she hold that power, but she has a direct link to another Demon Lord named Abyss. These connections add depth to some characters and to the story, something welcome for the readers.

Arata must face the Demon Lord Abyss in the Sky Library if he hopes to save Lilith from him. Unfortunately, in their first face off, Arata quickly learns that his grasp of magic is child’s play compared to a full-fledged Demon Lord. It is only the quick thinking of his friends that help them escape from sure death at Abyss’ hands. Abyss is so strong; he can almost kill everyone there with a glance and his tricky magic style.

But why does Abyss want Lilith?

Luckily for Arata and his friends, one of the keepers of the Sky Library is on their side. She tells them there are two weapons made to defeat Demon Lords, and Abyss hasn’t found both. Arata and the others play a dangerous game of cat and mouse with Abyss across the Sky Library in hopes of finding that missing weapon first. It is likely the only chance they have against the older and more experienced Demon Lord Abyss.

In Summary
This volume introduces a new story arc, leaving behind the Iscariot and Hijiri, Arata must face the true power of a Demon Lord. His enemy is a Demon Lord named Abyss, but his power is handicapped and not up to normal. Even with that, he is more than enough to kick Arata’s butt. This is the first-time readers are exposed to the true dangerous level of magic wielded by Demon Lords. Until now, the characters of the book have tried to convince us that they are scary strong, but there haven’t been any real consequences. Now with Abyss displaying those powers, it adds levity to the job of the Trinity Seven to keep Arata in check. However, will they take the lesser of two evils and allow Arata to become a full-fledged Demon Lord to defeat Abyss?
