Anime Limited Reschedules ‘Overlord’ UK Release

3 min read

overlord-header-9-19With it originally listed on select retailers late last year as being distributed by Anime Limited, the release for Overlord in the UK has been hit or miss. Retailers were listing a January 9th, 2017  debut for the show that obviously wasn’t right in the slightest and Anime Limited announced in March that they were planning an April 2017 debut with details to come for the series that they’re distributing for Funimation. That’s obviously not happened but they’ve updated on their blog that they expect the set to land on June 12th, 2017 as separate DVD and Blu-ray releases as well as a Blu-ray collectors’ edition set.

Check out our review of the North American release.

The summer 2015 anime series comes from author Kugane Maruyama with illustrations by so-bin that’s published by Enterbrain. It began in the summer of 2012 and released its tenth volume earlier this year.

It was animated by Madhouse with Naoyuki Itou directing it based on scripts by Yukie Sugawara and character designs by Takahiro Yoshimatsu as they adapt from the original works.

The Japanese cast includes Kenta Miyake as Cocytus, Manami Numakura as Narberal Gamma, Masayuki Katou as Demiurge, Shigeru Chiba as Sebas Tian and Yumi Uchiyama as Mare Bello Fiore.

The English language dub was directed by Kyle Phillips with Josh Grelle as the lead writer on it. The cast includes Chris Guerrero as Ains/Momonga, Elizabeth Maxwell as Albedo, Felecia Angelle as Shalltear, Anastasia Munoz as Narberal, Jill Harris as Aura, Megan Shipman as Mare, Jeff Johnson as Demiurge, Ed Blaylock as Sebas Tian, Bryan Massey as Cocytus, Mikaela Krantz as Clementine, Brad Venable as Khajit, Ray Hurd as Gazef, Morgan Berry as Nphirea, Heather Walker as Hamsuke, Clifford Chapin as Peter, Ben Phillips as Dyne, Chris Wehkamp as Lukrut and Lara Woodhull as Ninya.

Plot concept: On the night his favorite MMORPG is scheduled to be shut down, veteran player Momonga stays logged in until the clock hits zero. The screen goes dark for only a few moments before he finds himself completely immersed in the online world of Yggdrasil. Left with all of his character’s devastating powers, total dominion over his loyal NPCs, and nothing better to do…Momonga decides to try his hand at taking over the world.

All the hours he’s spent grinding and dungeon crawling have certainly paid off, and as he tests his strength on local rogues and legendary beasts he comes to realize that not one opponent can stand against his might. Embracing his new identity as the fearsome mage Ainz Ooal Gown, Momonga continues his search for bigger, badder adversaries. Leaving the people of Yggdrasil to wonder—who exactly is trapped with who? ”
