Ninja Girl and Samurai Master Episode 29“It’s a Regime Change!!”

What They Say:
The year is 1555, the middle of the Warring States period, and one young man holds on to a very big dream. That young man, known as an empty-headed fool, is none other than Oda Nobunaga. Enchanted by his dream, a certain young girl who admires Nobunaga swears that she will become his ninja one day. Nobunaga has one goal: to unify Japan by military might! Decorated by a colorful cast of characters, including the airheaded Kichou, the errand boy Hideyoshi, the tsundere Nene, the straight man Mitsuhide, and the half-dead Hanbei, this heavy-hitting wartime gag anime is about to begin!!

With the simple fact that Nobunaga was basically a force for change throughout the lands, regime change isn’t exactly a surprise with what’s left in his wake. We’ve seen so many changes, humorously done, throughout the series so far that it’s certainly fun. With Ashikaga now the Emperor, we get a fun meeting between these two people who have much power and how Nobunaga is given offers of position and title in order to be controlled. Of course, that’s not what Nobunaga is about no matter what the shogun tries to do. To balance it out, we get some time with Hisahide, who when not messing with Chidori’s posterior, talks about some of the struggles that will be faced in dealing with what’s to come. It’s an amusing mix of seriousness and his old man style that just clicks so very well.

In Summary:
This series continues to be a lot of fun in general and I tend to enjoy these episodes a bit more as it focuses on the characters and their interactions. The “action” pieces are fun when we get them to be sure but the dynamic in the interactions, especially with the way the cast has grown, has been great. Just the things we get between Hisahide and Chidori with his more outwardly obvious pervy ways makes for some great reactions from her and that definitely delights. This is continuing to be a fun show that’s just doing so many things right and leaving me smiling a whole lot.
