‘New Mutants’ Film Officially Scheduled

2 min read

New MutantsFox is starting to fill in a few more of the untitled films that they have slotted for 2018 with another X-Men property, this time officially putting New Mutants on the schedule. The film is taking the April 13th, 2018 release date (that was previously a tentative March 2nd, 2018 release date). There’s still not a lot officially known about it but with that date now in the pipeline we expect production to kick off in the next few months and a lot of casting confirmations to start hitting soon.

Originally we learned that director Josh Boone was co-writing with Kante Gwaltnet while Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner will produce. The later drafts brought into play new writers as Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber =boarded the project. Both of them worked with Boone on bringing The Fault in Our Stars script to life, so it’s not terribly surprising.

What we did get last year and is hopefully still holding true is the apparent cast list for it as it was revealed that the film will at least include Native American Danielle Moonstar, Scottish girl Wolfsbane, Brazilian ladies man Sunspot, a Kentuckian called Cannonball, Russian teen Magik and an alien named Warlock as the main focus. Hopefully Warlock will include Doug within that.

Boone, for his part, is definitely considered a hot commodity as his film The Fault in Our Stars was made for $12 million and made $307 million worldwide.

Said Kinberg of the X-Men expansion with Boone back in May 2016: “We’re so excited to explore this new part of the X-Men universe, and so excited to do it with Josh, who is uniquely suited to tell this story about young characters.”

Original concept: Cannonball. Sunspot. Moonstar. Karma. Rahne. Teenagers, thrown together by the one thing they had in common — the X-Factor in their genes that made them different, made them mutants. Relive the adventures of the team that will come to be known as X-Force… if they survive.
