Nicole Kidman Boards ‘Aquaman’ As Queen Atlanna

2 min read

Jason Momoa AquamannCasting continues for the upcoming live-action Aquaman film that has an October 5th, 2018 debut slated for the project. The latest piece to surface comes from the actress herself with Nicole Kidman confirming the rumors that she will be a part of the project by playing Queen Atlanna in the film. Kidman’s strong career over the years is enjoying some big kudos these days for her work in the fantastic Big Little Lies. She’s no stranger to the superhero world either, though it’s been quite a few years since she was in the 1995 film Batman Forever as Dr. Chase Meridian.

“The reason why I love [‘Aquaman’] is James Wan is an Australian, and I’ve followed his career since he started,” she said. “He’s a really good friend of mine, and he offered to let me play Queen Atlanna. As soon as he said I could wear mother-of-pearl and be a mermaid warrior, I said I’m done. Please. If there is one thing I have to do in my life, I have to be that. [Laughs] Because, you’ve got to have some fun.”

The film is set to be directed by James Wan  and will star Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, and Willem Dafoe as Vulko

Wan recently described the film, saying, “I kind of don’t want to give too much away but know this: The spirit that I’m going for is like a classic sort of swashbuckling action adventure, sort of high seas adventure story…It’s ultimately a quest story in the spirit of Raiders of the Lost Ark meets Romancing the Stone.”

Plot concept: The reluctant ruler of Atlantis, caught between a surface world constantly ravaging the sea and Atlanteans looking to lash out in revolt.
