Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers):
This volume starts off with Mira journaling about Kyouma. After several days, she still it finds it impossible to understand him. Before long they get a job to go after the Chamberman, dangerous cyborg that used an illegal coil. Mira and Kyouma track him down and apprehend him. She realizes that when the odds are against them that Kyouma gives them the edge to make it through even though it may defy anyone’s calculations.
Prince Salva arrives in Japan with his robot, Lasithi. He meets up with Claire Skyhart and admits he is in Japan to find Dr. Shidou’s (Mira’s creator) and his final legacy. The other prince, Lwai, encounters Kyouma and in instantly enamored by him. Kyouma tries to shake him off, but Lwai sticks to him like glue. Kyouma thinks he can lose Lwai at a festival, but Lwai ends up blowing up a stall and Kyouma continues to be stuck with him.
Kyouma takes Lwai to Azumaya, a store that is managed by Kyouma’s sister-in-law, Tsubaki, and who makes his specially ordered clothes. Lasithi tracks Lwai down at the store to bring him back to Salva. Mira meets up with Kyouma at the store and it happens to be Obon. Tsubaki reminds him Kyouma to visit a certain grave.
Back at Mary’s place, Four is attacked and ripped in half by Lwai for reasons unknown and removed his coil. Though Four is being repaired, the true to reason for Lwai visit was to issue a challenge to collectors for a race of sorts at Easter Island, which is sealed off due to a specific incident. This is all done to investigate Mira.
Mira and Kyouma aren’t the only ones that accept this challenge. Collectors from all over the world come to join this race. There is a flashback of Kyouma meeting Miyabi, who later became his wife, and their journey together that eventually ended in Miyabi’s death due to muscle wasting disease and his entry into the group Grendel. It is also uncovered that the reason he hates coils is because it was what ultimately killed Miyabi.
In Summary
This volume had a different, more personal feel to it. The story is also slowly revealing more details surrounding both Mira and Kyouma’s past. I liked the pacing and variety to this volume. I remains very interesting while continuing to have a lot of action, while still advancing the story. As a whole I really continue to recommend this title.
