Crunchyroll has picked up one of several new short-form anime series coming out this season with Sekai no Yami Zukan, which translates as Dark Picture Book of the World and is being simulcast as The World Yamizukan. The series is set to go live today at 4:05pm ET for members and it’ll be available worldwide outside of Asia.
The show is being directed by Noboru Iguchi based on the scripts by Oolongta Yoshida with animation produced at ILCA.
The series has set Takumi Saito as the storyteller for the show and the cast also includes Katsumi Toi, Asana Mamoru, Yukihiro Takiguchi, Aoi Imagawa, Nomakes, and Tetsu Watanabe.
Plot concept: The anime will be in an omnibus short format that will tell stories of the strange and bizarre in our world, including UFOs, cryptids, curses, ancient civilizations, supernatural powers, spiritual experiences, bizarre cases, different dimensions, and urban legends, told in a picture show style. The anime seeks to evoke the retro atmosphere of pulp horror stories that were popular in the 60s and 70s in magazines.
