With the various international releases piling up out there, Kaze France has thrown their hat in the ring when it comes to The Asterisk War. The distributor has now set a May 24th, 2017 release for the first of four volumes of the property on separate DVD and Blu-ray releases. The sets are being done in its original Japanese language only with French subtitles and six episodes per set. The only extras announced at this point are the two collector postcards in the first volume.
The property comes from the light novel series The Asterisk War: The Academy City of the Water (Gakusen Toshi Asterisk). Written by Yuu Miyazaki, with art by illustrator okiura, so far ten volumes of the light novel “academy battle” action series have been published in Japan, through Media Factory. Yen Press is releasing them and the manga in North America.
The cast includes Atsushi Tamaru as Ayato Amagiri, Nao Touyama as Claudia Enfield, Ai Kakuma as Julis-Alexia von Riessfeld, Shiori Izawa as Saya Sasamiya, Ari Ozawa as Todo Kirin, Asterisk War Ayato Amagiri, Yūma Uchida as Eishiro Yabuki, Takanori Hoshino as Lester MacPhail, Chinatsu Akasaki as Ernesta Kuhne, Mutsumi Tamura as Camilla Pareto, Yumi Uchiyama as Irene Urzaiz, Juri Nagatsuma as Priscilla Urzaiz and Tomokazu Sugita as Dirk Eberwein.
The anime series is produced by A-1 Pictures. Staff involved include chief director Manabu Ono (The Irregular at Magic High School), director Kenji Seto (Wooser’s Hand-to-Mouth Life), with character design and animation direction by Tetusya Kawakami (Nanana’s Buried Treasure), and music by Rasmus Faber (Lagrange – The Flower of Rin-ne).
Plot concept: Amagiri Ayato arrives at The Academy City on water, Rikka—famous for the integrated battle entertainment, “Star Wars Festival”—at the invitation of the Student Council President of the Seidoukan Academy, Claudia. Soon after he incurs the wrath of the “Petalblaze Witch”, Julis, and ends up in a duel with her.
