Ruri, in Oreimo 2, became a potential love interest for Kyosuke. Something of an otaku sweetheart, this secondary character took over the series and the manga.
While the cat ear and tail Ruri made an appearance in a maid costume, she seems to have matured for the recent Orca Toys releases. This 8 inch figure comes with a base covered in white carpet-like fabric.
She is painted in a light peachy skin tone with black and white ribbons and bikini. When looking at her closely, her feet and hands seem to be out of proportion, but her body has elongated limbs and supermodel features. Outside of her eyes, the figure offers an interesting interpretation of the character.with even the shadow of ribs on her side and the bulge of her pelvis over the bikini bottom, she looks much more human than the anime.
Her painting is simple but the black and white clothing offers an interesting balance against her skin tone. Her sky blue bracelet and purplish blue hair contrast with the pinks of her eyes and cat ears. A join line in her hair meets the back with her bangs, and while it seems too symmetrical, the 3D aspect of her hair creates a deeper level of visual interest.
I’m not sure how I feel about the overall aesthetic because it does not match the short, less curvy character, the figure has a presence that most fans will recognize from the second season of Oreimo.
When the figure arrived it had been packaged in layers to protect all details of the figure. The figure had plastic around the edges an exposed hand had foam wrapped and taped in place, and when the shell covered the figure, it did not move. So even though she traveled halfway around the world, she was in perfect condition.
In Summary:
Even at the increased scale, the figure appears above average in both quality and painting. I’m not sure why some of the details were not brought out more, but as a fan of the character, the figure does offer her subdued emotions and moe appeal.
