Kodansha Comics Planning ‘Ghost in the Shell’ Anthology Manga

2 min read

Ghost in the Shell AnthologyKodansha Comics was at the Emerald City Comic Con this weekend and made a pretty interesting new announcement regarding the Ghost in the Shell property. Riding high from the recent hardcover releases of the older manga works and enjoying the spotlight coming on thanks to the live-action film, they’re going to be putting together a new anthology book similar to the Attack on Titan one they released last year.

Planned for a spring 2018 debut, the book will be called the Ghost in the Shell: Global Neural Network and they’ll be bringing in creators to work with Shirow Masamune and Western comics creators to tell new stories for the property. No creators have been announced yet but editor Ben Applegate confirmed that it will be a single-volume hardcover with full-color pages.

“The concept of the anthology will be very similar to the publisher’s Attack on Titan anthology”, said Ben Applegate, Associate Director of Publishing Services for Penguin. “The concept behind that book was American comics artists take on a Japanese property. Well, we’re doing it again! This time, with Ghost in the Shell.”

Shirow Masamune will be supervising the stories for the book. According to Bleeding Cool, “Applegate said that Shirow was inspired to oversee the anthology after being highly impressed with the quality of the Attack on Titan anthology, and wanted to do something similar.”
