Second ‘Outcast’ Season Premiere Scheduled

2 min read

Outcast Poster 1The season premiere of Outcast on Cinemax last June 3rd proved to be quite the show for a lot of people, myself included, as I found it far more engaging than I thought I would as this type of series is not usually my thing. With the series getting a second season renewal before the first season even aired, we figured it wouldn’t be until June 2017 until we’d see it. But it looks like it might be coming earlier as Fox UK, which is handling some of the international distribution, has revealed an April premiere for it in the region. And it’s hard to imagine that they’ll have it first over Cinemax with its North American distribution.

The series is part of the continued strong build up of original material that Cinemax is looking to go with when it comes to darker and grittier projects. Cinemax gave it a ten episode green light for the first season, which is fairly standard for the network with new shows it wants to work on. The property was optioned back in November 2013 with Kirkman as an executive producer on the series and he wrote the pilot. The show is being produced under the Circle of Confusion production company which also works on The Walking Dead. Adam Wingard directed the pilot.

Plot concept: Outcast follows Kyle Barnes, a young man who has been plagued by demonic possession all his life. Now, with the help of the Reverend Anderson, a preacher with personal demons of his own, Kyle embarks on a journey to find answers and regain the normal life he lost. But what Kyle discovers could change his fate — and the fate of the world — forever.

Patrick Fugit (“Gone Girl”) stars as Barnes, a man searching for answers, and for redemption, who sequesters himself from those he loves for fear of causing greater hurt. Philip Glenister (“Life on Mars”) stars as Reverend Anderson, a West Virginia evangelist who believes he is a soldier in God’s holy war against the forces of evil on Earth. An inveterate drinker and gambler, he doesn’t believe God intends people to sweat the small stuff. Gabriel Bateman (“Stalker”) stars as Joshua Austin, an eight-year-old who lives across town from Kyle. To his family’s dismay, he appears to be in the clutches of demonic possession, but there’s something very different about this possession and its connection to Kyle Barnes.
