What They Say:
The “Nyanbo” are creatures with square bodies with ears and tails that came to Earth from outer space. There’s Tora, who dreams of repairing their broken UFO and returning to space, as well as his sister Kotora, the precocious Shiro, the mischievous Mike, the mysterious Kuro, and many more. All of these Nyanbos are now happily living much like cats, free-spirited and sometimes getting into trouble, in places that humans don’t know about.

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
With some cute time stopping material the last time around with Tora and Mecha, this one does what it does best in shifting gears with the characters. This one deals with Kotora a bit more today as she discovers one of the things she’s playing with in the attic is a backpack, which leads to an explanation of what school is. Naturally, she’s pretty interested in it all and that means a cute makeshift classroom is put together for everyone with Tora as the teacher. While everyone has fun with it by playing it right, Kotora has no clue and is basically just all over the map. Of course, Tora tries to teach about the UFOs and that ends up boring everyone else to a good degree so it finds a nice balance of things, at least until the UFO gets damaged along the way. Poor Tora, having to spend time holding buckets outside!
In Summary:
With its focus just on the core group of characters, Nyanbo works better for me this time around. I like some of those they’ve added over the run of it but there are others, like Mecha, that just take it to a place that’s not as much fun. Watching this group do their thing as teachers and students to give Kotora a taste of it is cute and that we get as much trouble as we do is just adorable as their individual strengths and weaknesses are all revealed.
