Godzilla 2014The 2014 Godzilla film from Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. did $529 million on its $160 million run and has been on a slow development phase as other projects and creative changes took place. It was revealed at the end of January that they’ve brought on Michael Doughtery to direct the sequel and we learned that the second film will be called Godzilla: King of Monsters, which is now  planned for a March 22nd, 2019 debut. It’ll be followed up by Godzilla vs Kong on May 29th, 2017 as they’ll be taking from the Kong: Skull Island film out later this year to tie it all together.

With the film set to start shooting on June 19th, 2017 in Atlanta, casting is now moving along a bit further. We learned recently that Millie Bobby Brown of Stranger Things was going to be involved and now her character has had her father cast with Kyle Chandler, who got some good attention recently for his Netflix series Bloodline but is more known for his time on Friday Night Lightsyears ago. His character is a scientist of some sort in addition to being a father.

Dougherty isn’t a well-known name to be sure as his biggest film was the 2015 release of Krampus. He wrote and directed the 2007 film Trick ‘r Treat, which is getting a sequel, and was a writer on X-Men: Apocalypse as well.
