‘A Silent Voice’ Gets First Anime DVD/BD TV Spot

A Silent Voice VisualJapanese distributor Pony Canyon revealed recently their home video plans for A Silent Voice now that its theatrical run has wrapped up. The feature is set for a May 17th, 2017 release where there will be three editions. We get a regular edition DVD priced at 3,800 yen for more casual audiences, a 5,200 yen Blu-ray regular edition, and an 8,000 yen Blu-ray limited edition release. Ahead of all of this they’ve now brought out their first TV spot for it through Kyoto Animation’s channel.

The limited edition has its box art by Futoshi Nishiya, and an all color booklet inside. The release also comes with a bonus disc containing the long version of the TV special, stage greeting footage, the long promotional video, and TV commercials.

Both Blu-ray editions will have DTS Headphone X audio options and audio commentary tracks with the staff and cast.

The Japanese cast includes Miyu Irino as Shouya Ishida, Saori Hayami as Shouko Nishimiya, Aoi Yūki as Yuzuru Nishiya, Kensho Ono as Tomohiro Nagatsu, Yuki Kaneko as Naoka Ueno, Yui Ishikawa as Miyoko Sahara, Megumi Han as Miki Kawai and Toshiyuki Toyonaga as Toshi Mashibasa.

The film is based on the manga by Yoshitoki Oima that’s being released in North America by Kodansha Comics. Produced by Kyoto Animation, the film is directed by Naoka Yamada based on the script from Reiko Yoshida with Futoshi Nishiya handling the character designs.

Plot concept: Shoya is a bully. When Shoko, a girl who can’t hear, enters his elementary school class, she becomes his favorite target, and Shoya and his friends goad each other into devising new tortures for her. But the children’s cruelty goes too far. Shoko is forced to leave the school, and Shoya ends up shouldering all the blame. Six years later, the two meet again. Can Shoya make up for his past mistakes, or is it too late?
