This weekend had a “Walkure ga Tomaranai’ concert in Japan for the Macross Delta property and that brought about some new information at the end to keep fans engaged with the future. It was revealed that a new anime project is in the works for TV in 2018 to help celebrate the 35th anniversary of the original series that has spawned numerous works. No details were provided about it.
The original work, Super Dimension Fortress Macross, debuted back in 1982 and spawned several TV series, OVAs, and films, as well as the combination work in North America with Robotech that brought on a wave of young fans that are still involved in anime communities today. Unfortunately, due to licensing problems and lawsuits over the years, very little of what’s been produced after the original works in the early 1980’s is available for North American distribution, making each new franchise all the more frustrating and distant.
