NBC Universal Japan is handling the home video release of the fall 2016 anime series Long Riders and they’ve set a pretty standard plan for it, though things have hit a snag. With the first volume released in late December, the remaining volumes of the series have been delayed, presumably because the final episodes for broadcast have been delayed as well. This has essentially bumped each volume by a month, which the updated chart now reflects. The series is getting a six-volume release that began on December 21st, 2016 with the DVDs priced at 6,200 yen and the Blu-ray’s priced at 7,200 yen. Both formats are listed as limited edition releases.
The show was directed by Tatsuya Yoshihara based on the series composition from Takahashi Natsuko. Jiemon Futsuzawa worked on the character designs.
The Japanese cast includes Nao Touyama as Ami Kurata, Hiromi Igarashi as Aoi Niigaki, Rumi Okubo as Hinako Saijou, Yurika Kurosawa as Yayoi Ichinose and Yoko Hikasa as Saki Takamiya.
The project set Ray to perform the opening theme song for the show. She’s done a number of anime series over the years including the recent AOKANA series.
The series is based on the manga by Taishi Miyake and began back in 2012 and has five volumes released so far. It already stands out a bit because it focuses on university aged students and is looking to capitalize on the Yowamushi Pedal crowd a little bit with its focus on bicycling.
Plot concept: Ami Kurata, a first-year university student who has no athletic ability, suddenly falls in love with a folding bicycle after seeing it in front of a train station. Inspired by her newfound love, she starts saving up to buy a bicycle and to learn cycling.
