star-wars-rebels-obi-wan-kenobiWhile we’ve had some tales in the Marvel Comics series for what Obi-Wan Kenobi has been up to in the years following Revenge of the Sith, it looks like we’ll be getting some new TV material in Star Wars Rebels. Disney XD is getting the third season midseason premiere underway this coming weekend and ahead of it they’ve dropped a new three-minute trailer for it. With some fun nods to the property in Rogue One last month, and characters from that set to appear in the series this year, a lot of people are looking forward to these new threads. With Obi-Wan, he’ll have two voice actors portraying him with James Arnold Taylor handling the younger incarnation that Ewan McGregor played in the films while Stephen Stanton will handle the Alec Guiness era one. Amusingly, Stanton voice Admiral Radus in Rogue One.

The series stars Freddie Prinze Jr. as Kanan, Vanessa Marshall as Hera, Steve Blum as Zeb, Tiya Sircar as Sabine, Taylor Gray as Ezra, Dee Bradley Baker as Captain Rex, Captain Gregor and Commander Wolffe, Sam Witwer as Darth Maul and David Oyelowo as Agent Kallus. New to this season are Tom Baker (“Dr. Who”) as the intriguing Force-wise Bendu and Lars Mikkelsen (“House of Cards”) as Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Plot concept: Having established a secret base on Atollon, the Ghost crew, now led by a more powerful Ezra, strengthens the rebel fleet by acquiring new resources and recruits eager to stand against the Empire. However, the Imperial efforts to eliminate the rebellion are now being led by the coldly analytical Grand Admiral Thrawn, whose strategic, tactical and cultural insights make him a threat unlike any they have faced before. In season three, Ezra and Sabine take on new roles and challenges as the rebels prepare for their biggest mission yet – a direct assault on the Empire.
