What They Say
Brain Drain

Eikichi Onizuka, the GTO, is back in his hometown by the shores of Shonan on something as close to a sabbatical as he could possibly get, but any dreams of relaxing are quickly erased as he takes on a voluntary position at a local foster home. Things immediately turn for the worse when a troubled teen runs away and is then kidnapped. The GTO must then take to the streets, with his old biker friends in full support, to rescue a child who has given up on life.

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers):
Katsuragi is so much of a handful that she is single-handedly taking all of Onizuka’s time. Well, that and all the thugs she is paying to relentless attack him!

In classic Onizuka fashion, he first runs from the gang of thugs trying to kill them and then dives into a convenience store. There, he finds a horse head mask and attacks the thugs claiming he is the MinoTerror. Which would have been more intimidating if it had actually been a bull’s head mask, but I digress. The real feat will be if Onizuka can actually fend off the dozens of guys after him?

Onizuka is true to his word, and he refuses to quit on Katsuragi. He even manages to connect with her on some level, but it proves to be too late. Things continue to go south with Katsuragi’s life and she runs away from the youth home. She even manages to get kidnapped by sex slave trafficking ring operating right in the heart of Shonan. But she has cried wolf to her police dad too many times and he refuses to believe her friends when they warn that she might have been kidnapped.

With the police a useless bunch of civil servants, Onizuka takes it upon himself to muster all the badass troublemaking scums of society from Shonan to help him find the black van that was seen abducting Katsuragi. But will they be enough to find her without the police help? And even if they find her, will it be before she is drugged up and abused by sick perverts?

In Summary
GTO: 14 Days in Shonan picks up right where it left off from the first volume; crass humor and badass inner city antics. Onizuka continues to prove to the kids in the youth home that he isn’t some lame adult spouting things he knows nothing about. He had his own rough youth and he is only trying to help them find the best path forward for themselves. In that, Katsuragi is an odd one since she comes from a good home and her dad is the local police chief. So, her acting out is much different than most of the other kids that come from legit broken homes. It will be interesting to see how Onizuka continues to work with these kids and if he can continue to connect with them in ways that make them respect him.
