black-butler-crunchyroll-headerWith a good bit of material to work through over time as the various pieces get added, Crunchyroll has added another solid series to its catalog slate thanks to the partnership with Funimation as the original Black Butler series is now streaming there. The timing is good for the twenty-five episode run as it’s about to depart Netflix as well, making Crunchyroll the place to see the show in its original Japanese language with English subtitles. Availability is limited as it’s an older show with a different rights set for it as it’s open to US and Canadian viewers only.

The English dubbed version is still available on Funimation’s streaming service.

The property comes from the manga Kuroshitsuji that began back in 2006 from Yana Toboso. The series is still ongoing with the twenty-three volumes out so far. Yen Press releases the series domestically while FUNimation has handled the anime localizations.

Original premise: In Victorian-era Europe, a young boy loses everything he once held near and dear to a vicious plot. In his moment of death, he strikes a deal with a demon: his soul, in exchange for revenge. Ciel Phantomhive is now the head of the Phantomhive corporation, handling all business affairs as well as the underground work for the Queen of England. His new partner is a demon butler, Sebastian Michaelis, whose powers as a butler is only surpassed by his strength as a demon.

The story follows the two along with their other servants, as they work to unravel the plot behind Ciel’s parents’ murder, and the horrendous tragedies that befell Ciel in the month directly after.
