Machida Sawako, nicknamed Miss Bernard, frequents the school library and always seems to have a book in her hands… but while she longs to be an avid reader, she finds reading to be too much work.

Having had to put up with Sawako at the cafe, we now see how Shiori has to deal with Sawako at school once again as well in the library. With the two of them heading home just as it begins to snow, there’s a niceness initially with them waiting at the bus stop as it falls, at least until Sawako starts talking about books she hasn’t read and just comes across poorly. Simply put, the more I see of Sawako the more she just needs to disappear from the show so we can get some fun bits with the rest of the cast and their love of books, which has had its moments.
In Summary:
Though there’s a really nice tone to parts of this, those areas tend to focus more on Shiori than Sawako and that’s problematic. Sawako is just such a problematic character even as a force of chaos within the group that exists here that you really don’t want anything to do with her. She’s the friend that, while having a nice moment here and there, is the type you really wouldn’t keep in your life unless you were forced to.
