It’s not a proper Tom Cruise movie unless he’s running and the debut of the first full trailer for The Mummy delivers that exactly as fans want. The trailer is one that Universal has worked before in this design by doing a full scene for in order to set the tone before going into more of the montage material. And while we know the basic idea of what a Mummy movie will be like, this one looks to change things up in some interesting ways right off the bat with what we see here. Consider us very intrigued.
The relaunch plans for The Mummy received a significant move back in April 2015 as it was planned for June 2016 and was bumped back to June 9th, 2017. This is the first follow-up to the Dracula Untold film as part of the larger connected “monster universe” that they’re trying to put together. Because of the previous shift, the third film in the project, which is still untitled, was moved to March 30th, 2018.
The Mummy is directed by Alex Kurtzman based on the script by Jon Spaihts.
Plot concept: Thought safely entombed in a tomb deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.
