Originally serialized in Comic Kairakuten from the December 2016 installment, You Are My Toy is a sixteen-page story from creator Shisuke Ishikawa, who has about seven other works on the service. This was my first experience with their work and they’re certainly someone what I want to check out more of. There’s a roughness to the quality of the line work and inking that’s appealing because it’s not as polished and smooth as some other creators. There’s definitely a good bit of detail to it so it’s not a sloppy approach and we get some good detail to the backgrounds as well so that we’re also not just getting empty rooms and backgrounds. All of this pushes towards a pretty engaging visual design.

The story for this chapter focuses on a young woman named Kurata and her nameless man, a neighbor of sorts that she visits regularly to basically treat as her toy. She has him perform for her briefly in order to get aroused and then she blindfolds him to have her way with him, which reinforces that he’s not really a person to her but just a tool that gets her where she needs to go. For the guy, however, it’s a mixed blessing because he’s actually in love with her and has been since before she began doing this. He wants more but she’s pretty dominant in how all of this is unfolding and that keeps him from pushing too far because he does enjoy being the one that she does this with. Of course, part of the reason she chose him is because he’s a quiet kind of guy and she knows he’ll go along with it.

Of course, that changes with this chapter as he wants more, wants to see her, and pushes back enough to get the upper hand. It’s a straightforward reversal of roles here as he begins to treat her as a toy as she’s ashamed to be seen this way, but her body reacts so strongly to so many different aspects of this that as much as she denies it it’s a sign of how much she wants it. Yes, in a black and white world this is problematic, but within the context of this situation it works really well as she wants to be dominated but never realized it and everything clicks in a very big way for her. Ishikawa’s artwork is fantastic throughout it, especially since it avoids internal shots, and we see just how she struggles with how her body is reacting and how well he moves into giving her what she wants, which ties very nicely to his own wants when it comes to her. It’s very well illustrated and certainly should pitch a tent or two for most.

In Summary
Going into a new creator’s work is always a little dicey since you don’t know what you’re going to get and it could go in so many different directions. This one has its own mildly complex issues that you can bring to it, but in terms of the story and context it works well and makes for a pretty charged and erotic work within the space of sixteen pages. It accomplishes some decent things when it comes to the characters but it delivers handily with the artwork and sexuality, making it a pretty good chapter and a creator worth investigating more of.
