With the title character of Han Solo having been set previously with Alden Ehrenreich and then having Donald Gloverboard the project to take on the role of Lando Calrissian, let’s just say we’re already pretty interested. While we’re waiting to see if the character of Sana Solo makes it into the film or if this predates it or just plays around it, a new piece of casting has arrived with the addition of Emilia Clarke. The actress, best known for her role on Game of Thrones, did not have her part identified when announced. It is generally expected that she’ll be playing an Imperial character of some sort if things are kept to how they usually are with British-origin actors taking on those roles.
“StarWars.com is excited to announce that Clarke, known for her stirring portrayal of Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones, will join the upcoming untitled Han Solo Star Wars movie. Clarke’s role will round out a dynamic cast of characters that Han and Chewie will encounter on their adventures.”
The new anthology film still doesn’t have a formal name, though that might be getting closer as casting is getting further underway.
Plot concept: This new film depicts Lando in his formative years as a scoundrel on the rise in the galaxy’s underworld — years before the events involving Han, Leia, and Darth Vader in The Empire Strikes Back and his rise to Rebel hero in Return of the Jedi.
