‘Captain Future’ Anime DVD/BD Release Reveals First TV Spot

captain-future-german-volume-1-dvdGerman distributor Universum announced previously a plan for something big this fall with a Blu-ray limited collector’s edition of Captain Future. With the release dates recently changed for it, they now have their first TV spot for the individual releases. The company is also bringing out a big box set priced at 200 euro, the set will have the original Japanese language track and the German dub as well as German subtitles. The set will have nine discs and will have the 40 episodes that were dubbed in German with the special while also having the original Japanese version uncut for the full 52 episodes.

This was originally solicited as just the box set and Blu-ray only but they’re also looking to bring it out in collections of singles, with the first one on DVD or Blu-ray on December 9th, 2016. They’ve also added a DVD box set for the complete series.

The series is getting two Blu-ray box set releases in Japan that are priced at 30,240 yen each and will land on September 14th, 2016 and November 9th, 2016. The first box set will bring out 24 episodes across four discs with a bonus fifth disc that will have the TV special that runs for an hour. A booklet will also be included. The second disc will have the rest of the episodes and will also include a booklet.

The series originally aired beginning in the fall of 1978 and ran for 52 episodes and was directed by Tomoharu Katsumata.

Plot concept: Curtis Newton, aka Captain Future, is an orphan. His parents died in their artificial satellite while he was an infant. His father was a scientist, who has abandoned earth for the satellite to dedicate his life for science along with his aging friend the genius Dr Simon Wright. Wright senses his death, and decides to implant his brain in a mechanical container. They both manufactured a superior robot and an android. Captain future dedicated his life to fight evil along with his three men, the brain, android, and robot.
