First ‘Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets’ Teaser Trailer Arrives

2 min read

valerian-posterAfter showcasing some footage at SDCC earlier this year, the Luc Besson written and directed film Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets has now brought out its first formal trailer for all to see. The footage seen at SDCC certainly got a lot of attention but it was pretty locked down and only attendees to the panel saw it. Now, with this release, we get something that’s definitely pretty impressive and reminds me that I need to go watch The Fifth Element again. The film is slated for release on July 21, 2017.

Written and directed by Luc Besson, the film stars Dane DeHaan, Cara Delevigne, Clive Owen, Rihanna, Ethan Hawke, Herbie Hancock and Kris Wu. Virginie Besson-Silla is producing the film on behalf of EuropaCorp, while Fundamental Films, BNP Paribas, Orange, Universum Film, Gulf Film, River Road Entertainment, Belga Films and TF1 Films Production are the main co-financiers of the movie.

The project is based on the French graphic novel series from Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mezieres that dates back to 1967.

Plot concept: Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne) are special operatives for the government of the human territories charged with maintaining order throughout the universe. Valerian has more in mind than a professional relationship with his partner- blatantly chasing after her with propositions of romance. But his extensive history with women, and her traditional values, drive Laureline to continuously rebuff him. Under directive from their Commander (Clive Owen), Valerian and Laureline embark on a mission to the breathtaking intergalactic city of Alpha, an ever-expanding metropolis comprised of thousands of different species from all four corners of the universe. Alpha’s seventeen million inhabitants have converged over time- uniting their talents, technology and resources for the betterment of all. Unfortunately, not everyone on Alpha shares in these same objectives; in fact, unseen forces are at work, placing our race in great danger.
