Keijo: Where bosoms and BL meet!

What they say
Nozomi Kaminashi is a fantastic gymnast, and in order to help her family out of poverty, has decided instead to become a competitor in a new women-only sport, Keijo. A lucrative endeavor, Keijo is a popular gambling sport where female players stand on floating platform on the water and must push other players off by only using breasts and buttocks. Will Nozomi be able to make it big in the world of Keijo?

Get ready for more action, breasts, and butts than ever before! The vast majority of this episode is dedicated to the titillating battle between Kotone and Nozomi. This entire episode had a far more shounen feel, and the battle between these two was actually reminiscent to a lot of the over-the-top fight scenes found in shounen anime like JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure and One Punch Man. Actually, this episode made me think of it as a combination between the parody-type story of One Punch Man combined with the outrageous fan service of Food Wars.

This episode also had a bit more over the top fan service, though it’s still not what I would call extreme. In spite of the strong fan service-y premise, the series, and this episode in particular, manages to create a unique balance between being overly fan service-y or too serious. Like most anime of the genre that it’s parodying. I think the most stimulating part here was when Kotone and Nozomi were pushing into each other with their butts. During this particular moment, Nozomi started shaking her ass like a humming birds wings… or a vibrator. This resulted in Kotone being weakened because her south side, that is, her lower body, is sensitive to touch. During this moment, we’re given an up-close camel toe shot of both Kaminashi and Kotone.

The second part, which makes up about a third of the overall episode, was dedicated to talking about how it was important for everyone to maintain the bonds they make here. It was all very shounen-like. It kinda reminded me of a less extreme version of Fairy Tail. Something else that’s interesting about this episode is that we’re introduced to the first and possibly only BL fan in Kotone. To be honest, I was kind of expecting this at some point. In a series filled with women, I was positive there’d be at least one who was a yaoi fangirl.

In Summary
As the best episode so far, episode 5 has all the makings of an excellent parody of its genre. Despite the T&A, it takes itself very seriously, yet not seriously enough that I want to roll my eyes. I enjoyed watching this episode from start to finish. One other thing I’m curious about, though it doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with the story, is the naming convention here. Kotone’s butt is named Cerberus, and Cerberus is the guardian dog to the gates of the underworld. I was just wondering if the creator put any thoughts into that particular pun, or if perhaps I’m overthinking things.
