2 min read

Death Parade RE CoverWhile we’ve got a bit to go until the release of Death Parade from Funimation, they’ve now brought out the first two episodes for streaming on their site for free viewing in advance of its home video release. The series is coming out as a DVD/BD combo release on November 29th, 2016 and it’s getting a regular edition priced at $64.98 and a limited edition at $84.98. We don’t know the makeup of the limited edition yet and we don’t even have a breakdown of any on-disc extras yet either.

The twelve episode series was produced at Madhouse with original creator Yuruzu Tachikawa directing. Shinichi Kurita worked on it as the character designer and chief animation director. The series stars Tomoaki Maeno, Asami Seto, Rumi Ookubo and Yoshimasa Hosoya. The English language cast, directed by Zach Bolton and Cris George, includes Alex Organ as Decim, Jamie Marchi, Jad Sazton as Nona, Anastasia Munoz as Quin, Z. Charles Bolton as Clovis, Eric Vale as Takashi and Trina Nishimura as Machiko.

Plot Concept: When two people die at the same time, they’re sent to a place that’s neither heaven nor hella lavish bar between worlds where the stakes are high and the rules are simple: if you win you live again, if you die you’re gone for good.

Decim is the bartender charged with serving the souls who enter Quindecim. He may make a mean cocktail, but his true profession is to play the role of arbitera judge who determines whether or not a soul is worthy of reincarnation. To aid in his judgment, the bar’s patrons are forced to play simple games laced with sadistic twists designed to bring their true natures to light. To Decim, judgment has always been black and whitethat is until he meets a mysterious young woman whose fate seems impossible to decide. His indecision shakes the very foundation of the games and raises the biggest question of all: Who is fit to judge the dead?
