“Can She Do It? A Real Life Otome Game”Kiss Him, Not Me Episode #01

What They Say:
“I love seeing guys get along more than anything!” Serinuma Kae is a second year high school student who’s always entertaining such wild thoughts and pairing boys up everywhere. Everyday, she enjoys discussing her fujoshi flavored fantasies with her like-minded friend, A-chan. But one day, Kae’s favorite anime character dies, and she suddenly loses a lot of weight…

The Review:
Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
Serinuma, a fujoshi or a fan of boys love (BL), thinks about pairing boys up all day long. Though she isn’t as thin as the other girls, everyone cares about the kind Serinuma, including the good-looking boys at her school. Serinuma and her friend, both fujoshis, enjoy spending their time talking about BL and pairing boys in their school.

All is good until Serinuma’s beloved bishounen, Shion, dies in her favorite anime. She goes into mourning and doesn’t leave her bed for a week. When she’s finally decides to finally get out of bed, she is thin and beautiful, shocking everyone including her family. Those that are shocked the most are the good-looking boys in her class. Suddenly, Serinuma finds herself the center of the boys’ attention and goes with them all to the movies. She tries her best to hide her otaku self, but in the end she can’t keep it contained. Even though she confesses she is an otaku, they all decide to stay by her side.

In Summary:
It was so good to see one of Junko’s mangas come to life. Just like the manga, the anime made me laugh and nod my head furiously in agreement with Serinuma’s fujoshi life. It was fun to watch and the eye candy was pretty nice too!

Just like I’ve said in my manga review of Kiss Him, Not Me, it still bothers me how much attention Serinuma fosters as soon as she loses weight (which miraculously melts off in a week). That aside, the anime does a very nice job of keeping Serinuma’s fujoshi personality the same whatever her weight may be. The story also give hope to every fujoshi (or fudanshi) out there that a soul mate can be found that can understands your addiction.

For a great laugh and an anime that any otaku can connect with, Kiss Him, Not Me is a great anime!
