With the conclusion of the summer run of the Rewrite anime series, we learned that a second season is coming in January 2017. Aniplex Japan has now broken out the plans for the home video release of that season as well and it looks like we’ll have no gap between releases. The series is getting a thirteen-volume release total that began on September 28th, 2016 where the DVDs are priced at 6,000 yen and the Blu-ray’s at 7,000 yen to cover the thirteen episode run.
The series was directed by Motoki Tanaka who also handled the overall series composition. Romeo Tanaka and Kai assisted on the composition and scripts while Masayuki Nonaka worked on the character designs. 8bit produced the animation production for it.
The cast includes Masakazu Morita as Kotarou Tennouji, Chiwa Saitou as Kotori Kanbe, Saya Shinomiya as Chihaya Ootori, Eri Kitamura as Akane Senri, Keiko Suzuki as Shizuru Nakatsu, Risa Asaki as Lucia Konohana and Kana Hanazawa as Kagari.
Runa Mizutani performed the opening theme song for the series with “Philosphyz” and she also performed the ending theme “Sasayaka na Hajiman.” You don’t tend to see the same performer doing both the opening and closing theme songs, so this stands out nicely. Anri Kumaki produced an insert song for the series with “End of the World.”
Plot concept: Rewrite is set in the fictional city Kazamatsuri where tree-planting and afforestation have caused the city to become overgrown with trees and flowers in much the same way that other cities are filled by buildings. However, while most of the city appears to be rural, there are many traditional city elements as well. While set in a modern setting, the city also gives off a strange sense of nostalgia.
Tennouji Kotarou lives here. He’s a high school student who has the ability to rewrite his own body; he can become stronger and faster at any time he chooses. He investigates supernatural mysteries with five girls from his school.
