Warner Bros. Japan is digging a bit further into their vault for some very sought after releases that will arrive later this year with the Tetsujin 28-gou series that originally aired in 1980. With the first set coming up in just a couple of weeks we now have a look at the really slick packaging design and materials for it. The series is getting two Blu-ray box sets that will be priced at 40,000 yen each with a split of 26/25 episodes per box set.
The series had Tetsuo Imazawa as the chief director for it with character designs by Kinichirou Suzuki working from the original work by Mitsuteru Yokoyama. It was animated at Tokyo Movie Shinsha. The Japanese cast includes Eiko Yamada as Shotaro Kaneda. Ikuko Tani as Utako Shikishima. Kousei Tomita as Inspector Ohtsuka. Kumiko Takizawa as Makiko Shikishima and Yoshio Kaneuchi as Dr. Shikishima.
Plot concept: Shotaro Kaneda is a young boy whose dead scientist father created the giant robot Tetsujin 28 after realizing the chances of attacks from outer galaxies. Shotaro has possession of the only controller, kept in an attache case, which enables him to have direct command of the all mighty Tetsujin 28. If the controller goes into the hands of the enemy, this could lead Tetsujin 28 to fight for villains who want to destroy The Earth. Whenever peace in this world is threaten, Shotaro together with his friends, Dr. Shikishima, Detective Otsuka, must unleash the power of our metallic super hero.
