We learned back in May that the Krypton series from the Syfy network received approval for a pilot to be produced with Damien Kindler set as the showrunner with Colm McCarthy directing it. Progress for that is now being made as we learned recently that British actress Georgina Campbell has signed on to play the character of Lyta Zod in it and now we have our leading male role with Cameron Cuffe. Cuffe is coming on to play Seg-El, which is Kal-El’s grandfather. Kal-El, is of course Superman as we know him. Cuffe is a relatively young and unknown which is hothesese things tend to go as he’s had roles in THe Halcyon and the recent Florence Foster Jenkins with small parts.

The character is described as “Destined to be the ancestor of Jor-El (future father of Superman) and Kal-El (the future Superman), Seg-El is the scion of the once-prosperous El family and is blessed with an intuitive brilliance for all things technical. He now is living in Krypton’s lowest caste after his family was stripped of its rank.”

The project comes from Warner Horizon Television and DC Comics and is being set up at Syfy. The development has David S. Goyer as an executive producer on it and he’ll also be writing the pilot for it. Ian Goldberg of Once Upon a Time will also be producing.

Plot concept: Based on the DC Comics characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, Krypton is set two generations before the destruction of the legendary Man of Steel’s home planet. It follows Superman’s grandfather Seg-El — whose House of El was ostracized and shamed — as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos.
