The first weekend of October is in the books and it’s one that played out well for Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children as it drew in $28.5 million over the course of it. It also opened in 59 markets overseas for a $36.5 million take with South Korea having the highest take at $5.1 million. It’s good for Fox as they haven’t had a #1 opening film since back in May and they definitely needed it even with some of their other strengths this year like Deadpool. It’s also good for Tim Burton as it’s his 7th film to take a #1 spot since his career began.
Another new film this weekend was Deepwater Horizon and it took the second spot with a $20.6 million take, which might be good in some cases if not for the fact that it cost $120 million. Also out this weekend was Masterminds which didn’t connect with its advertising or cast and did just $6.6 million. Also doing nowhere near doing as well as it should is Queen of Katwe which went wide with 1,200 screens and brought in just $2.6 million.
The recently released Storks is still doing well with a 31% drop this weekend with a $13 million take, bringing it up to $38.8 million.
Things keep going well for Suicide Squad as the film broke $320 million and is now one of the top fifty highest grossing films of all time.
