‘Rewrite’ Getting Second Anime Season

2 min read

rewrite-season-2-visualThe end of the final episode of the summer anime series Rewrite arrived this weekend and in that we got the teaser and nod that there will be a second cour for it as well. With a subtitle of “Moon ARc and Terra Arc,” a commercial spot has been reveled as well as a key visual. The new season is set for a winter 2017 debut.

The series was directed by Motoki Tanaka who also handled the overall series composition. Romeo Tanaka and Kai assisted on the composition and scripts while Masayuki Nonaka worked on the character designs. 8bit produced the animation production for it.

The cast includes Masakazu Morita as Kotarou Tennouji, Chiwa Saitou as Kotori Kanbe, Saya Shinomiya as Chihaya Ootori, Eri Kitamura as Akane Senri, Keiko Suzuki as Shizuru Nakatsu, Risa Asaki as Lucia Konohana and Kana Hanazawa as Kagari.

Runa Mizutani performed the opening theme song for the series with “Philosphyz” and she also performed the ending theme “Sasayaka na Hajiman.” You don’t tend to see the same performer doing both the opening and closing theme songs, so this stands out nicely. Anri Kumaki produced an insert song for the series with “End of the World.”

Plot concept: Rewrite is set in the fictional city Kazamatsuri where tree-planting and afforestation have caused the city to become overgrown with trees and flowers in much the same way that other cities are filled by buildings. However, while most of the city appears to be rural, there are many traditional city elements as well. While set in a modern setting, the city also gives off a strange sense of nostalgia.

Tennouji Kotarou lives here. He’s a high school student who has the ability to rewrite his own body; he can become stronger and faster at any time he chooses. He investigates supernatural mysteries with five girls from his school.
