What They Say
Famous novelist Shijuurou Sakaki dies mysteriously at Hotel Yasogami, an isolated hotel in the middle of a lake. The cause of his death? Drowning–despite the author being safely inside his own room. To make matters more puzzling, the video logs of the housekeeping robot that was with Sakaki at the time of his death appear to be corrupted…Did the malfunctioning robot commit murder? Or was it the curse of the ghosts that haunt the depths of Lake Yasogami?! Kyouma and Mira, surrounded by suspicious fellow guests, must uncover the shocking story of a tragic accident from the past, which will bring them closer to the truth behind the Coils!

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers):
Mabuchi and Mira’s mission this time is to investigate the death of horror author Shijuurou Sakaki that cannot be explained. They are sent to Hotel Yasogami, which the locals and legend claim are haunted. The suspicion is that illegal Coils are behind it, but with little evidence the duo struggle to solve the murder.

With a second murder now on their hands, it comes to light the “Number” Coils may be responsible for this. “Numbers” are explained that they are original Coils that were made before the New Tesla towers were erected. They don’t act like normal Coils that dip only a little bit into Dimension W, but into the unknown depths of the dimension. They were given out to researchers and a few still are out in the public and not claimed by New Tesla.

While Mabuchi and Al are figuring out how “Number” Coils are involved with an incident twenty-one years ago on the now considered haunted lake, Mira finds herself transported to another time dimension and face to face with the victims of a past protest that were drowned when the lake flooded. Only these people have been long dead, but subsisting in a vicious world.

Now, with the police, a pair of young girls and a mysterious group of bystanders there is a blackout. The manga ends with Mira trapped and seeing a much younger Shijuurou Sakaki.

In Summary
First and foremost, Yen Press did a beautiful job again on this series. The cover glows in the dark and there are two double-sided color pages that start the series off. It’s also a thick volume with a small glossary at the end.

Beyond how gorgeous Yen Press did packaging this book, the story itself is a great one. While progressing the story, this dimensional horror murder mystery fits right in. I especially like having Al in the story more. He’s a character that I hope gets more exposure as well as his past with Mabuchi.

This is definitely a must read. You’ll not regret it.
