Originally serialized in Comic X-Eros #46 from the October 2016 installment, Relaxation with Senpai is a twenty-six page story from creator Kiasa, who has two other works on the service. This is my first experience with their work. Kiasa’s style is definitely one that’s appealing, both in the character design artwork and that we get some pretty good backgrounds and locations to make it come across richer and more interesting. The actual action is pretty good as it doesn’t go for something that’s so over the top or overly detailed that it just becomes too much. There’s a good sense of design about it and the flow of the panels with it works really well in many of the scenes with the blending and overlap too.
The story works better with this type since it’s twenty-six pages and we actually get a few pages of setup and planning for it so that it has a little more impact. The premise focuses on two research co-workers named Karin and Hibiya. While Hibiya may have a fleeting interest in her he doesn’t pursue it since she’s involved with Katsunori, a pushy kind of guy that just irks Hibiya. When Karin rebuffs Katsunori for some playtime attention he turns his attention to Hibiya and drags him out to get some pleasures of the flesh. The place itself is pretty cheap, as Katsunori’s paying for Hibiya, because it doesn’t involve much actual interaction. The girls, for example, don’t even take their tops off or get undressed most of the time. So there’s a mild aspect to it that has its appeal in just how some can find comfort and help from someone rather than just themselves.
The real amusement comes when Hibiya’s pick of a girl is a cute one named Suzu, who it turns out is actually Karin Suzumiya. She does this for some extra pay simply because it’s easy and makes good money. The problem is that she’s not wearing her glasses and doesn’t realize who Hibiya is. And Katsunori’s off fooling with someone else and doesn’t even know about any of this. Hibiya’s cute as he can’t tell if she can’t realize it or not at first who he is and the two have some mild frisky time until it becomes clear, which sends her into a bit of a panic. Why I like is that she ends up going a bit further with him, but not all the way, in order to cement him as being just as involved as she is so that he won’t say anything outside of there.
That, of course, gives him all the permission he needs to take things further, which is unfortunate. Karin does reveal that she does do some extra things with certain customers but they tend to be the overbearing ones and she’s trying to protect herself. That leads to Hibiya being more forceful and taking things all the way. While she’s not exactly saying no in a clear and defined way, the implication is certainly there and it can make some uncomfortable. When reading it just as the actual interaction and removing that context, Kiasa definitely frames and paces the actual sexual situation very well. With the character designs coming across very well done and a lack of internals in addition to avoiding overly graphic pieces, it becomes engaging in that regard. The flow of it all and how Hibiya pushes the situation is discomforting to be sure but the market for fantasy eroticism like that is definitely there and has its place in the grand scheme of things.
In Summary
As an opening experience with Kiasa I can definitely say I like their artwork and I really like that they use the extra pages to expand on the story and character so it feels like it has more meaning. Some of the content aspects didn’t work as well for me, at least when taken in a serious way, but as a fantasy piece it can be a seriously good bit of release and roleplay for people to engage in and have fun and having materials to work with in regards to it is hugely important. There’s a lot to like in general here and I can definitely see checking out more of their work and for people with netori fetishes to dig into this one a bit, though I still think that tag is just a little askew with this particular chapter.
