KochiKameThe 40th anniversary Kochikame TV event that’s coming up got a bit more clarity about it thanks to the project’s official site. The upcoming one-hour special that will debut on September 18th, 2016 and comes as the manga itself is about to end with the upcoming chapter and 200th compiled volume. The cast includes LaSalle Ishii as Kankichi Ryoutsu, Yumi Morio as Reiko Akimoto, Mitsuru Miyamoto as Keiichi Nakagawa and Haruki Sayama as Daijirou Ohara.

The project comes from the original manga by Osamu Akimoto as part of the 40th anniversary this year. The original work began back in 1976 and is published to this day with 199 volumes so far. A TV series was produced back in 1996 that ran until 2004 which total 373 episodes. There are two feature anime films as well.

Yet with all that material, it’s almost like the show never existed with how little mention it gets in general, even though it’s been running for so long and had so much anime produced.

Plot concept: The special will center on Sabrina, a princess of the Attakaino Kingdom who looks exactly like Lemon Giboshi. She is kidnapped when she visits Japan, and Ryotsu rescues her and shows her around Shitamachi before more trouble breaks out.
