The BookScan rankings for the month of August have arrived via ICv2 which gives us a look at what’s selling within the bookstore channels and non-hobbyist locations to get a feel for the more mainstream and casual market. With the debut of the Suicide Squad film, 40% of the books that charted are related to characters from it, with a good dose of Harley Quinin there, that definitely works. Image Comics has a weak month with Saga and Monstress on the charts while Marvel gets the third Darth Vader book on the list.
Books related to real world events and political aspects take up a decent chunk as we get the three volumes of John Lewis’ March charting, the Clinton Cash graphic novel adaptation, and American Born Chinese.
On the manga size, Viz Media claims three spots with two volumes of Tokyo Ghoul and one of My Hero Academia while Kodansha Comics hits up the latest Attack on Titan volume.
