Rupert Wyatt got a lot of acclaim for his work on relaunching a franchise with Rise of the Planet of the Apes, though he didn’t come back for the second installment. His film Gambler didn’t hit so well at the box office and he dropped out of directing Gambit due to scheduling conflicts, and that film turned into a bit of a mess anyway. Now it looks like he’s settled on his next project after spending time getting The Exorcist TV series off the ground by focusing on a film that he’s co-written with Erica Beeney. The new film is called Captive State and according to Variety, “a competitive auction is underway, with a mix of studios and financiers currently chasing the property. The parties involved expect a deal to be sealed before Labor Day weekend.”

Not surprisingly, there’s no details on what the film is about other than being a science fiction project of some kind with plans for it to go into production next year. While The Gambler may not have clicked, studios will definitely be looking to bring him in with this project since it can be tied to the very well thought of Apes film.
