‘Monolith’ Comics Getting Theatrical Adaptation

1 min read

monolith CoverOriginally running in 2004 before getting canceled after twelve issues by DC Comics, The Monolith is now on track for a theatrical adaptation. Created by Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti with the rights reverting to them in 2013, the film is now being set up at LionsGate. The project has already set Dave Wilson to direct it with a script coming from Barnett Brettler. Wilson is the creative director of Blur Studio which is the company that Tim Miller of Deadpool fame runs, so there’s definitely a bit of additional interest going in from that alone.

Plot concept: In the time of the Great Depression, a creature of clay was created to protect the lower East Side from the incursion of the underworld’s forces. It’s been long sealed away, but now the time has come once again for this monstrous beast to defend the denizens of New York!
