TOHO put out a new promotional spot out for Touken Ranbu back in June, but it’s been a mostly quiet affair for this project for a while since it’s got some time before it comes out. The latest update is the addition of three more cast members and their respective characters, which follows the initial reveal awhile back of the two main characters. The new additions are:
- Daiki Yamashita as Imanotsurugi
- Reona Irie as Toushirou Maeda
- Tarusuke Shingaki as Heshikiri Hasebe
Revealed at AnimeJapan 2016, the new series was originally being planned for a 2017 debut with ufotable, but now it’s Doga Kobo handling the animation and is now on track for a fall 2016 debut. The arrival of the first promo has also revealed the staff for it and some of the cast. The series will be directed by Takashi Naoya from the scripts by Pierre Sugiura while Junichiro Taniguchi is handling the character designs.
The previously announced cast includes:
- Mitsuhiro Ichiki as Yasusada Yamatonokami
- Toshiki Masuda as Kiyomitsu Kashu.
The game itself kicked off in January 2015 and was developed by Nitroplus and DMM Games.
Plot concept: The year is 2205. The “historical revisionists” have begun attacks on the past in their plot to change history. The Saniwa, who have been charged with protecting history, can imbue life into objects. Strongest among these are the Tōken Danshi. The story centers around their cheerful lives.
