The original anime series Yuri!!! on Ice was announced earlier this year in which we get a series that’s focused on digging into the authentic figure-skating world and not “yuri” as some might hope. With the basics revealed previously, the official site has gotten a refresh that has revealed the new key visual that you can see to the right as well as confirming that the series will be a part of the fall 2016 season this October. Additionally, a more formal synopsis of the project was revealed.
The project is one that will capture a lot of attention with those involved as it’s including director Sayo Yamamoto also handling the series composition with Tadashi Hiramatsu on as the character designer. It’s being animated by MAPPA. Yamamoto has some solid credits to her name with the Fujiko Mine TV series and Michiko & Hatchin and she’s listed as the original creator here along with Mitsurou Kubo.
The series will star Toshiyuki Toyonaga as Yuuri Katsuki, Junichi Suwabe as Viktor Nikiforov, and Kouki Uchiyama as Yuri Plistesky.
Plot concept: The series revolves around Yūri Katsuki, who carried all of Japan’s hopes on his shoulders to win at the Gran Prix Finale ice skating competition, but suffered a crushing defeat. He returns home to Kyushu and half feels like he wants to retire, and half feels like he wants to continue ice skating. With those mixed feelings swirling inside him, he confines himself inside his parents house. Suddenly the five-time consecutive world championship ice skater Victor Nikiforov appears before him, and along with him is Yuri Plisetsky, a young Russian figure skater who is already defeating his seniors. Victor and both Yuris take up the challenge on an unprecedented Gran Prix series.
