‘Magi: Adventure of Sinbad’ Anime Arrives on Netflix

2 min read

Sinbad TV VisualNetflix premiered the new anime series Magi: Adventure of Sinbad earlier today on the service as the spring 2016 series is now available in full for its members to check out. There’s a bit of consternation coming from fans since it’s not being handled like previous show in that it’s in Japanese only with a few language options, but we’re seeing some responses from customer service that give hint that Netflix is looking to bring the dubs out for them down the line a bit rather than trying to rush through them. While Netflix does handle some shows on a weekly basis that are new – more so in other countries than here where binging is more common – they’re continuing to acquire new anime properties and hold off on the traditional simulcast approach in favor of giving the more casual audience the whole show as that’s what the Netflix culture is. Hopefully, we’ll see a second wave of interest in the shows when dubs are produced – potentially with more home video partners aligned in it.

The season was directed by Yoshikazu Miyao based on scripts by Taku Kishimoto. It was animated at Lay-duce with Souichirou Sako handling the character designs.

The cast includes Daisuke Ono as Sinbad, Akira Ishida as Yunan, Tomokazu Sugita as Drakon, Ai Kayano as Serendine, Katsuyki Konishi as Badr, Yoko Hikasa as Esra, Keiji Fujiawara as Hinahoho, Takahiro Sakurai as Jafar, Ayumi Fujimura as Pipirika, Takehito Koyasu as Barbarossa and Hiroki Touchi as Baal.

PENGUIN RESEARCH performed the opening song called Spotlight while the ending song was performed by Fujifabric with the song Polaris.

Plot concept: The series takes place thirty years before the main Magi series and focuses on the young Sinbad as he goes on his journey’s that leads to him becoming king.
