After Kanade’s power protects Eri from a brush with danger, Kanade decides to share the secret of her ability to see the future with her best friend. But after hiding it for so long, Kanade’s not sure how to go about telling her. Meanwhile, Arou gets an unexpected visitor — his maternal uncle Sou, whom he hasn’t seen in seven years! However, Sou has more on his agenda than just catching up with his nephew. Plus, not only is he cognizant of Arou’s power, he also seems to have the same ability as well…
After six volumes, Tsukuba finally gets around to introducing some of the living members of Arou’s family. Uncle Sou gets more panel allocation than Arou’s father does, but that’s probably because Sou shares Arou’s talent for looking into the past. Still, Tsukuba’s flashbacks and the interactions between father, son, and uncle illustrate the unique difficulties faced by Arou’s father in parenting a child with Arou’s particular gift. I have a great deal of respect for Arou’s father after reading this volume. As for Uncle Sou, we learn much more about his sister through him than we do about him. He is largely a mystery although he definitely has some ulterior motives in approaching his nephew. It has not been mentioned whether Arou’s mother had the power to see the past, but considering Sou exhibits this ability, you have to wonder if this ability ran throughout their family.
While this volume is predominantly about Sou “showing” family memories to Arou and Eri’s and Kanade’s friendship, admittedly my favorite part of Volume 7 is the 10 page mini manga about Namiki and his business partner Ootake. Not only do you get to see a little more of Namiki’s past, but you get a much better picture of this stockbroker who just showed up briefly in Volume 2. My opinion of Ootake completely changed (for the better!) after reading this short extra. Not to mention, his interactions with Namiki’s pets are entertaining.
This volume includes a table of contents, the Namiki and Ootake mini manga, and Tsukuba’s usual “Sakura Mail.”
