How does Summer look? [predictions and anticipation]
To help wrap things up, we asked our team to give us their thoughts on the new season ahead.
GBS: Summer looks awesome.
KC: Summer looks a lot stronger than an even at-face-value spring looked. For one, there’s some sports anime coming up with Battery, Cheer Boys, Days, and Food Wars. Sweetness and Lightning, I’m told, is the good parts of Bunny Drop. Then there’s the spin-off of Barakamon, Handa-kun, which I’m excited for, even without Naru.
Let us not forget the most powerful summer show: Love Live Sunshine. I LOVED the first Love Live franchise and have enough blind enthusiasm for both idols and especially Love Live that I will never not be hype for Sunshine. Unless it disappoints. I’m an optimist, but also a realist.
GBS: Of the new shows, Amanchu, Sweetness and Lightning, Alderamin, Battery, Orange, and Kono Bijutsu-bu…etc. (This Art Club…etc.) look interesting. Maybe even 91 Days, if it doesn’t go too overboard. For returning/sequel/related shows, Food Wars is my most awaited title of all shows this coming season, with Love Live! Sunshine and Handa-kun also getting my attention. I’ll try to look at as many shows as I can, but with expectations for the rest firmly kept in check. It will be interesting to see which ones hit or miss when I actually get a chance to see them.
BCT: I’ve really not paid attention to many of the new shows. I’ve counted on the Summer season being the strongest lineup of the year, in quantity and quality, for the past couple years, so I should be optimistic. Food Wars’ return is the only definite for me, which is not a problem.
I don’t know if there’s anything else I’m willing to go bare chested for just yet.
Final Thoughts
As it seems people are wanting to disrobe and get down to their swimsuits for the massive pool party planned by the boss to celebrate the start of summer, that concludes our look at Spring 2016. Once again, I would like to thank Kory Cerjak and Brian Threlkeld for joining me here in the reviewing balcony and wish you all happy anime viewing for another season.
