The path for the sequel to Pacific Rim continues to be an interesting on to watch and now a new piece has been added to it. Universal Pictures has now set a February 23rd, 2018 release date for the Legendary Pictures backed film that will have it coming a week after Black Panther and a week before an untitled Fox/Marvel film that’s likely going to be the Deadpool sequel. With production set to begin by the end of the year we expect to hear more in terms of casting in the coming months.
As talked about previously, there has been a range of issues in getting the sequel to Pacific Rim going, which includes the whole shift of studio for Legendary from Warner Bros., where they made the first, to Universal Pictures, who are wary of big budget productions.
We learned earlier this year that Steven S. DeKnight has taken over as the director for the film. DeKnight has a huge resume of projects he’s worked on over the years, largely in TV, and got a lot of acclaim for stepping in and handling Daredevil. He was also the creator behind Spartacus, which in its first season was simply amazing.
Directed by Steven S. DeKnight from a script from Jon Spaights, the film currently stars John Boyega.
